When it comes to Pilates equipment classes, size matters — and smaller can often be better.
At Wabi-Sabi Pilates & Wellbeing in North Boulder, we keep our group equipment classes intentionally small. Four Reformers (or chairs or towers). Space to move. Time to focus. Real attention.
Because Pilates works best when it’s tailored to you, and not a workout you’re following along.
Pilates equipment can be so impactful, and fun! Pilates Reformers, Chairs, and Towers are designed to support your body while also challenging it — but only when used well.
In small group Pilates classes, instructors can:
- Offer precise, individual cues
- Suggest springs and setup for your body
- Notice sub-optimal patterns so you can change them, versus reinforce them
With more attention, you can build more strength, control, and consistency without feeling overwhelmed or lost in a crowd.
Large fitness classes often lead the group through a workout, but not really focusing on you. There are just too many bodies to help adjust and correct, so it’s up to you to find you own misalignments, patterns and modifications. I’ve been to those classes, and while fun, shifting my own form can hard, even as an instructor. Small group Pilates is different.
With just a few people in the room:
- It can be motivating to have others beside you, especially when it gets hard!
- There’s more room for you, both energetically and physically
- You can be more thoughtful with less distractions, and more consistent feedback from your instructor
- You can hear the feedback given to others which can help you understand your own alignment and connections in a new way
Whether you’re new to Pilates or continuing to refine, small group Pilates equipment classes offer the structure and support that help Pilates make sense. It’s a shared experience, more affordable than privates, but a lot of attention with less pressure, competition, or noise.
